Bumping this up because I still occasionally post on this and I won't have to get to the third page to modify:

My updated plebian list (from previous post which I kept updating). Here is my quick ratings on them. They are in order; though anything with the same rating can change especially as I will review them later (aka forgive my ignorance now; castigate my ignorance later smile.gif). I'm going to make a push the next two months to finish off the most important (that I can get on DVD) releases and eventually have an essay format on my picks for best whatever (since ratings themselves tell very little; but I just use this as a guide to keep things in my head). If I'm missing anything in my need to see list please tell me (as long as the movie is actually from 2008).

My criteria is that if the film was released on DVD or released in US theater in 2008.

Most dissapointing for me was Redbelt (I'm still not sure on my rating of it; the first half was excellent) and Futurama (though after the first movie I wasn't expecting much) and now Gonzo (though it was still a good doc, not a great doc). Add in Street Kings for a film that fell apart as it went along (lower rating than Gonzo and Redbelt though).

2008 releases I still need to watch (bolded releases I own): Afterschool, Australia, The Baader Meinhof Complex, The Bank Job, Charlie Bartlett, Black Belt, A Christmas Tale, The Class, Departures, Encounters at the End of the World, Frozen River, Gomorra, La Vie Moderne, Miracle at St. Anna, Mister Lonely, Never Back Down, Paranoid Park, Pineapple Express, Le Silence de Lorna, Synedoche, Revanche, Revolutionary Road, Step Brothers, The Visitor, Wendy and Lucy.

I am not going to count Still Life (2006: Jia Zhang-Ke: China) since there was an R3 DVD release in 2007. Worth watching though.
I am not going to count Ashes of Time Redux (1994) either. unsure.gif Worth watching though.

Sexy has actually seen more 2008 films. I moved Doomsday up two notches. It is no longer at the bottom but still below Love Guru :P I had to put Milk and Chocolate next to each other.

Unfortunately my 2009 and 2010 watches are nowhere near as plentiful (I think 21 2009 features and about 4 from 2010). What normally happens with me is that I get involved with a particular year (like 2008), watch too many mediocre or worse films and then get back to concentrating on classics or specific genre watches. Of course if we have an S&S of 2009 that might push me to watch more :D.

Thanks Opale. Several of those I will probably buy next month (especially Air Doll, Mother and The White Ribbon), but I'll keep an eye out for those others as well.

Ah master, Let The Right One In is great and The Bank Job is just has a sense of coolness about it. Crank up the system during the prologue (of The Bank Job) when it plays T-Rex's "Bang A Gong". It has a pretty fun guitar rift that's cool to listen to loud.
