REPO MAN
Alex Cox

United States • 1984 • 98 minutes • Color • 1.78:1 • English
A quintessential cult film of the 1980s, Alex Cox's singular sci-fi comedy stars the always captivating Harry Dean Stanton as a weathered repo man in desolate downtown Los Angeles, and Emilio Estevez as the nihilistic middle-class punk he takes under his wing. The job becomes more than either of them bargained for when they get involved in reclaiming a mysterious - and otherworldly - Chevy Malibu with a hefty reward attached to it. Featuring the ultimate early-eighties L.A. punk soundtrack, this grungily hilarious odyssey is a politically trenchant take on President Reagan's domestic and foreign policy.

DIRECTOR-APPROVED SPECIAL EDITION
  • New high-definition digital restoration, approved by director Alex Cox, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray edition
  • Audio commentary featuring Cox, executive producer Michael Nesmith, casting director Victoria Thomas, and actors Sy Richardson, Zander Schloss, and Del Zamora

Mine too. I loved this film growing up, but probably haven't seen it for at least 15 years. Looks like a really nice package too, I couldn't really wish for more on there.

Already have the excellent MoC version, but I'd be willing to double-dip if Criterion somehow improves upon it. I wonder if those are newly recorded interviews or the same ones ported over from the old Universal disc.

Still, the potential to "upgrade" from the MoC to the Criterion seems misguided at this point.

I already have the MoC, but I may consider grabbing the Criterion, if only to have better mobility with the film (i.e. not being limited to watching it on my region free player).

One of my favorite sets by far. Awesome artwork inside and out, terrific special features, great picture and audio quality. I would have had no problem forking out full MSRP for it. As it stands I've been a huge fan of the film since I first saw it back in 2008. It's sarcasm has never been matched and it's a head on journey into absurdness while remaining sane enough to relaya but of commentary on the government and consumerism. I'll be watching this many, many times in the future.

Well this is an odd one, isn't it? Baffling that a movie this bizarre and snotty would find studio backing in the '80s. I only had my first experience with the picture last night, and I found myself not quite blown away so much as absolutely intrigued by every aspect of the movie. It's just so damn weird that I couldn't help being won over, and the performances were a big part of this. Harry Dean Stanton is particularly brilliant - and how great s tthat interview?! Shame they couldn't get Emilio Estevez on the features.
