It was ridiculously hard to narrow this down Top 100, much less actually organize it in order. Also didn't spend as much time thinking about it then I should have so it was a quick gut reaction. Either way, for now, here's my Top 100, alphabetically:

Sorry to dump this in here while everyone is doing top 100's but this was less time consuming at the moment as my top 100 is definitely a major undertaking!

I will preface this list with a little bit about what Criterion has done for me since my discovery of it almost 3 years ago. Criterion has completely changed how I access and appreciate film. I've learned so much about the history and have a greater appreciation and understanding of what exactly it is that makes me like a particular film. Prior to really learning about Criterion my life was made primarily of American cinema. While American cinema still has it's bright spots, it completely clouds the fact that there are amazing things being done all over the world in film . Subtitles are no longer a turn off, lol and it's really quite something to experience some of these films for the first time and being able to see how they influenced Hollywood, particularly the Kurosawa films. I've learned more about film history, directors and many other things in the last 3 years than I have in my entire life previous. So with all the inane rambling done, here is my personal top 10 Criterion releases:

1) The Royal Tenenbaums

I absolutely adore this movie. I actually love all of Wes Anderson's movies, but this one is very special to me. It was the movie that introduced my to the Criterion Collection. I love the characters, the dialogue, the humor, the music, the cinematography, the framing, really everything. Watching this on Criterion Blu after the upgrade was awesome. It was like I was watching it for the first time all over again.

2) The Thin Red Line

I love Malick and what he does (although I'm still not too happy with The Tree of Life), but this is my absolute favorite. Malick cinematography really is something special. The scenes of the tropical islands are some of the most beautiful things ever put on film and the Criterion blu makes it that much more awesome. The vibrant colors of tropical life are just beautiful. And the sound on this one is amazing too.

3)  The Third Man

What is there to say, really? The holy grail of Criterion Blu rays which also happens to be a phenomenal film. The askew camera angles, the dialogue and the two scenes where Welles steals the film are worth it alone.

4) Modern Times

Never saw any Chaplin until I got into Criterion. Modern times is funny, heartfelt, and a little dark. My favorite scene is the automatic feeding machine for lunch. I was hooked on Chaplin upon seeing the hilarity of that sequence.

5) Brazil

Probably the funniest dystopian film ever made. Really cool sets, an awesome supporting role by DeNiro and one of the best scripts make this a classic in my book!

6) Yojimbo

Kurosawa has become one of my favorite directors ever, but over all the classics (Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Ran, etc) this is my favorite. Great storytelling, beautiful cinematography and in my opinion, outside of perhaps High and Low this is the best part Mifune ever played. I also love the wacky jazz infused soundtrack.

7) Repo Man

Never saw this until Criterion gave it the treatment. Instant love. I watched it twice in a row the day I got it. Bizarre is the word I would use to describe it. Another great soundtrack, and some great lines make this one of my favorites.

8) The Night of the Hunter

A shame that this movie did not get the respect that it deserved until much later. This fairy tale/slash horror movie is really something. The use of shadows and silhouettes make this film really beautiful. Mitchum's turn as the evil preacher make it a real horror show.

9) Kuroneko

A really creepy horror film with some great special effects and a cool story make this one of my favorite Japanese horror films

10) House

See above plus LSD. Really what can I say about this other than this is one of my favorite movies to show people.

A couple of honorable mentions:

Dazed and Confused: While this movie takes place 20 years before I graduated, I grew up in a small midwest town and this really isn't too far off from my high school experience even 20 years later. The Criterion addition of a 5.1 audio track really bring this amazing soundtrack to the forefront.

Lat Year at Marienbad: Seriously what the F? I've watched it 3 times now and it is one of the most beautiful, confusing things I have ever seen. Amazing cinematography.

Eyes Without a Face: Chilling. This movie creeped me out the first time I saw it.
