You got to hand it to Masters of Cinema. If you ever get a damaged set sent to you they will come to the rescue and ship replacement material. I got Sansho Dayu/Gion Bayashi with a busted case and they responded same day and told me they'd ship a replacement case for free. As well as Criterion, MoC knows happy customers are repeat customers. They sent me a booklet once in the past but I really thought I was SOL on this one. My shelves are grateful.

We'll move this topic into the MoC subforum as soon as we create it.

:D

Then they have a leg up on Criterion who will only send printed materials. One of my double-Amarays that was crushed is still being held together by masking tape, though it did a good enough job. I really just need to order about 10 doubles for the warped ones (don't quite close properly) and 20 singles which have various other problems like cracks or missing clips (for keeping the case shut).

The Pialat cover is laughable. It would be in everyone's best interest if they pulled a Judex and revised it some between now and August.

It looks like an illustration from a middle school "health class" textbook from the early nineties

MoC must have some sort of affinity for Pialat. I'm beginning to think I should look into his films. Any recommendations?

There will be two more Pialat releases:

A nos amour (already on criterion) 100% sure

Sous le soleil de Satan OR Le Garcu

Definitely Sous le soleil de Satan. The trailer for it is on the two existent MoC Pialat releases.

Where do people living in the US typically buy non-Region 1 dvds from? I am looking for the cheapest means...

Amazon.co.uk is my Alpha and Omega for non-Region 1 DVDs. They're 100% reliable and pretty cheap and their stuff comes to me often faster than domestic shipments. I'm talking 4 days after shipping my order the same day.

The exchange rate is ridiculous right now. On top of that I feel like I owe MoC for shipping me a replacement for my Sansho Dayu set, so I'll be putting some money down for them tomorrow. They sent me a new case with a new sleeve in it, and a new booklet inside it. All I needed was the case itself but I'll use the extra booklet for wall decoration.

Speaking of, for those who have the MoC Sansho Dayu set, are yours the fatter cases or the standard double case? My original case, the broken one, was of the fatter variety but the replacement they sent was the standard. Luckily they sent a replacement sleeve to go with it or my sleeve fit to the fatter case would have been too big.

You mean in favour of US consumers? I've lost out on 25% of the value of the Aussie dollar in comparison to the US dollar since October 2008, but the Euro is only 7-8% less and the UK pound is about the same.

If you're just looking to see the film, Koch Lorber has Une Femme Mariee scheduled for June 2nd in the U.S.

Its hard to tell, but I'd doubt it. Abhijan is R0/NTSC as are a few other titles, and I did not see any indication of that at the MoC website. As rule, most of their titles are PAL. I recall seeing a list of R0/NTSC titles at .org.

I have this version of Une Femme Mariee. Will probably upgrade to the MoC edition, as I have a little more trust in their picture quality. It was great to see him work with someone other than Karina, and IMO Macha Meril was her equal in every way, given the material.

My MoCs
Le Silence De La Mer
Naruse Box Set
Abhijan
The Savage Innocents
Fantastic Planet
Faust
Twenty-Four Eyes
Kuroneko
The Naked Island
The four Mizoguchi twin packs
I don't usually try grass

I got the MoC Une femme mariée today and watched that mother. The film is now my second favorite Godard (after Breathless, before Weekend). I couldn't have asked for a better transfer and I'm sure Gary Tooze will agree when the time comes. The restoration work was done by Gaumont, MoC licensed a transfer for the UK. It's deffo PAL and Region 2.

The lack of digital extras is more than made up for by the inclusion of that mammoth book, which contains all kind of background info and analytical stuff (including a transcripted lecture by Godard from 1977 where he keeps admitting to his students he can't remember anything about cinema) and, since it's accompanying a Godard movie, is full of self-referential little captions about the making of DVD booklets. Kinda funny.

The Koch Lorber may end up equaling the MoC in terms of image quality as I presume they'll be licensing the same Gaumont restored print. Perhaps they'll even dig up some extras too, as they did with La Chinoise. But they won't have that supreme book.
