And Walk Hard I genuinely did think was a unique sort of brilliant. I was a spoof-comedy that was informed by real masterpieces of the genre like Blazing Saddles or Airplane! and i think it's completely underrated. Too many lame films come out (and typically win academy awards) just because they're about the life of some cultural figure that everyone feels some kind of absurd nostalgia about. Walk Hard is so biting and sarcastic in its sentimentiality and melodrama that it does a critical service to cinema by blowing the prestige out of that genre and showing it for what it is.
I hated Walk Hard so our opinions there differ quite a bit. It seemed like a lazy way to make fun of Walk the Line and, in turn, the actual real life of Johnny Cash. In doing that, Walk Hard fell into the same narrative traps except without any of the human element.
