*Note. I try to write the source of the rumor next to the title. A lot of the titles that Criterion have "hinted" at on Facebook have circumstantial evidence at best. While it is likely that it will eventually be released as a Criterion, there is no timeframe provided or even 100% confirmation of a lot of these Facebook titles. Just a heads up ;)

Hi there. Nice to meet you.

If even half of these movies get the criterion treatment in the next 3 years I would be very happy. One quick question though: I'm wondering when did Mulvaney confirm Idioterne? I would love to see that film in the collection, but last month I sent an email asking about more von Trier, and I got a "no plans" response for Breaking the Waves and The Idiots, specifically.
And while I'm on the subject, I also got a big "no" for Intimate Lighting and Heavenly Creatures.

That is all.

I got an email early last month from Mulvaney confirming that they are going to release Nobuhiko Obayashi's HOUSE (aka HAUSU):

Quote

Hi there,

We do plan to release "House" on DVD, however I don't have any information about a release date at this time. Feel free to check back, and thanks for your e-mail!

Sincerely,

Jon Mulvaney

Man, that's got to be a joke about 'Hausu'. On the other hand, if it isn't - I know quite a few fans who'll be importing it to Australia.

That forthcoming list is truly impressive, but I'm fearful about how long it would take to work through it and release ALL the titles in it at Criterion's standard release rate (especially considering that titles other than these are also bound to come up and take us by surprise).

Still, Zabriskie Point AND Badlands AND Bruno Dumont AND...

One should note that while that list is rather long, over half of it is simply titles known to be in the Janus catalogue and doesn't mean they are being prepped for DVD, just that Criterion owns the rights to it. There are probably hundreds more to the Janus catalogue not listed.

Which Underworld movie is it that's being released? It had better not be that vampire movie. I will probably give up on Criterion completely if it is.

Underworld is a silent film directed by Josef Von Sternburg. I'm pretty sure there are no vampires in it.

Since they're restoring Badlands (about time), has there been any news regarding The Thin Red Line or the fabled 6 hour version of The Thin Red Line?

Hendrickson mentioned that they've signed another deal with Fox, so it wouldn't really surprise me to see The Thin Red Line. Certainly I don't think it's any more high profile than The Ice Storm which came out last year via Fox. I would be SHOCKED if they didn't use the Fox deal to pick up Darjeeling Ltd. (though I didn't actually like the movie all that much TBH)

I've been waiting years for a R1 disc of Le Jour Se Leve, such an amazing film and Jean Gabin as always is perfect. I highly reccomend seeing it becaise we know it'll be awhile before (if it really does) it gets released.

They do seem to be rather slow in putting out those films from the Janus box don't they? I suppose that's party of the thousand dollar price tag, getting to see a few films years before the actual dvds come out. Miss Julie is the only one so far to get released outside the set I think....anyways, this is a high want as Children of Paradise is one of my favorites. It's nice to see your recommendation.
