Agreed! Though I do want to leave both Criterion and MoC out, as they will both have their own sections of the board already! :)

Region 1 sets for Mysterious Cities of Gold the complete series, Season One of The Adventures of Black Beauty, Season 3 of Cities of the Underworld, and, Treasures IV: American Avant-Garde Film are on the top of my list. I'm glad I held out didn't buy an R2 of MCoG.

Now if they'd release Belle and & Sebastian, another anime classic, and UNCUT episodes of Alf (lionsgate was too lazy to clean them up so they released the syndicated versions), and the complete series of Mister Ed, I'll be really happy.

Kino will be releasing Alain Resnais: A Decade in Film (4 Disc). I love Resnais so I'm pretty excited but the thing is, I have no idea of what is in the box set. I can't find any information on Kino's website bout this release and Amazon has no information on what is in the set. Here's a link: Alain Resnais: A Decade in Film
If anyone else has any information on this I would love to hear it.

Also, when are they going to release Providence on R1 DVD or on any label where I can actually find and purchase a copy?

For samurai fans, Animeigo to release the first four of twelve in The Sleepy Eyes of Death series. Hopefully they go the distance with these, three box sets would be a perfect fit. :D

WARNER BROS. HOME ENTERTAINMENT GROUP OPENS THE WORLD’S LARGEST FILM VAULT WITH THE LAUNCH OF
“WARNER ARCHIVE COLLECTION”

http://www.wbshop.co...default,sc.html

Oh My ... A little bit expensive for these previously unreleased DVDs.

EDIT: let me add the press release:

Offers Movies Never Before Available on DVD; 150 Titles at Launch Including “Abe Lincoln in Illinois,” “The Citadel” and “All Fall Down”

Burbank, Calif., March 23, 2009 – Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group (WBHEG), today announced the debut of the “Warner Archive Collection” (www.WarnerArchive.com), a selection of movies spanning more than 60 years of filmmaking never before available on DVD. The world’s largest film and television vault is finally open to consumers who can now purchase authentic DVD and digital downloads of more than 150 classic titles for the first time drawn from Warner Bros. Entertainment’s unparalleled film library consisting of pre-1986 MGM, RKO Radio Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures films. They include Academy Award® nominee “Sunrise at Campobello,” “The Citadel,” “Mr. Lucky,” and many others from the Golden Age of Hollywood and beyond.

To order their movies, fans visit WarnerArchive.com, select their titles, and upon purchase, a state-of-the-art manufacturing on demand (MOD) system creates a made-to-order DVD indistinguishable in quality from a standard pressed DVD. The system places the DVD into a hard plastic Amaray case featuring custom artwork; shrink wraps it and ships the finished package to the customer which arrives in approximately five days. The cost per title is $19.95, plus shipping. Alternatively, movie fans can purchase digital downloads of these classic films to enjoy immediately on their PC. The cost for a digital download is $14.95 per title.

Initially the Warner Archive Collection offers 150 sought after titles including “Possessed” starring Clark Gable and Joan Crawford; “Once Upon a Honeymoon” starring Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers; and “All Fall Down” starring Warren Beatty and Eva Marie Saint. Every month approximately 20 classic films and television programs will be added and by year’s end more than 300 titles will be available online. For a complete list of current titles visit WarnerArchive.com.

“With a cinematic legacy as rich and varied as that found within our library, the challenge has been to meet the voracious demand of consumers who are seeking their favorite films on DVD,” said George Feltenstein, senior vice president, Theatrical Catalog Marketing, Warner Home Video. “Whether it’s an Academy Award® -winning classic from Hollywood’s Golden Age, a Sci-Fi cult favorite from the ‘70s, or a silent rediscovery from the ‘20s, the Warner Archive Collection has something for everyone. This unprecedented initiative represents a tremendous effort from Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and is representative of the company’s continued dedication to film preservation.”

As a companion to the Warner Archive Collection, WBHEG will launch an exciting new podcast series titled the “Golden History of Hollywood.” Available in late March on iTunes (www.itunes.com) as well as numerous online sites for free, the “Golden History of Hollywood” features captivating archival recordings from the studio’s vault including behind-the-scenes interviews with stars, radio editions of movies and much more.

Classic movie fans are invited to offer their input on future titles they would like to see in the Warner Archive Collection. Visit WarnerArchive.com and vote for a number of the next 20 titles that will be offered in April.

Something me and Duke will be interested in:

The Legend of Fong Sai-Yuk (aka Fong Sai Yuk)

Thank goodness the Cantonese mono comes with this. They should have put out the second one too (like the Royal Tramp 2-pak) since they have the rights to it.

Just stumbled upon this. Sounds really interesting but the price is kinda steep as I'm sure there's not much restoration or special features contained.

It actually really is pretty interesting. I reviewed it at DVD Times and generally enjoyed the offerings. The films aren't great, thus their status as being more overlooked than underappreciated, but there are some amazing scenes in store for those accustomed to the typically staid fare of classic Hollywood after the Production Code.

Clyde, I love pre code stuff. Too late in the evening to read your review. Will try and give it a read tomorrow, but how do these films compare to the pre-codes released under the TCM Forbidden Hollywood Collection banner?
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Different, for sure. Less prestigious. Not gritty so much as extravagant. Dave Kehr at the NY Times stated that the Warner Pre-Code films focused on the working class where Paramount (where the films in Universal's set were made) went for decadence. I don't entirely agree, but there is some truth to that. The six films in that Univeral Pre-Code collection aren't all "fun," with a couple actually downbeat. They do tend to have some shock value, though, and I really enjoyed half of them. One I didn't care for, one I thought was just okay and one I liked to a point. Even so, I think all six wear their Pre-Code status well enough.

That's great news. I've wanted to see this film for what seems like an age now, but is probably only five or so years. Well spotted.
